Overview

Alexamorelin (Ala-His-D-2-methyl-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) is a synthetic growth hormone secretagogue studied in human endocrine research. It shows GH-releasing activity comparable to hexarelin and appears on anti-doping prohibited lists. It is not authorized by Health Canada for therapeutic use.

Source & context

Biological / chemical source: Synthetic heptapeptide GHS

Primary research or clinical context: Research compound (not authorized by Health Canada)

Sequence and mechanism

Alexamorelin is a heptapeptide containing D-amino acids and a 2-methyl-tryptophan residue. Like other GHRP-class peptides it binds the ghrelin (GHS-R1a) receptor to trigger endogenous GH release, and hepatic metabolism can cleave its terminal alanine toward a hexarelin-like metabolite.

Why it is studied

Controlled human studies compared its GH-, prolactin- and ACTH-releasing activity with hexarelin. Because such secretagogues can be misused for performance enhancement, alexamorelin is also tracked in doping-control literature. Coverage here is educational and not a use recommendation.
